Born way back in 1928 Minnie mouse still looks good after all these years, conceived as a girlfriend for the newly created Mickey mouse Walt Disney modelled her on a flapper girl to appeal to the youth of the time and originally dressed her in purple. Minnie mouse was set to be in many adventures with Mickey and inevitably be rescued by him from some imminent danger. Later Minnie appeared in cartoons with a dog-called rover who later became Pluto the dog. Minnie mouse was most popular between 1929 and 1934 and since then her appearances have tapered off and only in the 1980s since Disney TV has her fortunes been revived. Now everyone again knows the name Minnie Mouse. It’s a little known fact however that Minnie has a sister named Mandie Minnie also has two niece’s Melinda and Melody.
A Minnie mouse costume is one of the classic and ever popular costumes, not just for Halloween but all year round, Minnie mouse costumes come in very short skimpy costumes to more ‘sensible’ costumes and of course there are Minnie mouse costumes for kids. The Minnie mouse costumes all have one thing in common even though each costume is unique and that is the inclusion of some mouse ears, it’s not Minnie mouse without the ears and this is a central part to the costume. Polka dots are also a common theme even though Minnie barely wore polka dots herself it’s been accepted that the majority of Minnie costumes have polka dots, the exception is Minnie mouse costumes for kids which sometimes have a single colour. Sometime Minnie also wears a blue dress but for some reason this hasn’t proved as popular as the pink or red Minnie costume, maybe it’s because Minnie Mouse is always portrayed as very feminine and pink is the most feminine colour. We still haven’t managed to find a blue Minnie costume for sale anywhere. A Minnie mouse costume also needs those long eyelashes and maybe even a blacked out ‘mouse’ nose and some fake whiskers to finish the costume. Minnie mouse traditionally wears yellow high heels but these tend to clash with the costume so most girls just wear black shoes instead. |
